Amazon : The World’s Best Retailer

Barron has a cover story on Amazon (AMZN).

A fairly long article and I recommend reading it at http://online.barrons.com/article_print/SB123819715466061661.html?page=1

What I like about Amazon (and it is on my watchlist) :

  • Leading E-Commerce (or online) business; Great moat here. Will we see an Amazon alternative?
  • Survived the dot com bubble (ie. It has went through recession and has emerged much stronger)
  • New channels and other revenue generating products/services in place (Kindle, cloud services etc

I believed the 3 points above provides sufficient evidence that Amazon will survived this recession and more importantly will have new services or channels revenue that can help grow its revenue as the online business continue to change and Amazon matures further.

Ichimoku says : Financial is still not bullish

At the heart of the US govt. plan is to save the Financial industry and have them lead the rest of the companies out of the recession.

What I like about XLF is that it includes financial services firms with diversified business lines from investment management to commercial and investment banking.

In short, it is a good representative of the health of the Financial industry.

Look ing at the chart, we can safely say that there is no clear bullish signal from the Ichimoku chart yet (despite the recent rally).

In fact, I see heavy resistant ahead at the 9.43 level. This year, it has attempt to break through this level for 4 times and has failed to do so. There is still no short term catalyst that can reverse the situation in the banks. I believe, it willl retrace back to 7.40 over the next few weeks.

Picking Out Weak Stocks

Yesterday was a good day to confirm or pick out the weak stocks.

In my short positions, I have ACC and ARE flagging such signals.

1. ACC

Tenkan sen has turn and may cuts Kijun sen. Its closing price is lower than the November 2008 low. A bearish sentiment on this counter. And if you look at the price action of ACC for the past 1 week, you will noticed that it goes up one day (or two) and come down the very next day. It is just reluctant to hold at the $18-19 range.

2. ARE

The volume for ARE is not that high. Maybe, it is due to the dividend being paid out on April 1 and April 15.  As it approach $32 – $33, I will be very careful and may take some profit off the table. For 3 times, this level has held up.
